Robert Dale Hughes' Obituary
On Monday, August 13, 2012 a beloved father, brother, friend, and a humble servant Bob Hughes departed this life to be with his Lord Jesus Christ at the age of sixty-four years, seven months and seventeen days. Son of Lee and Bessie Hughes, Bob was born December 26, 1947 in Malden, Missouri.
Raised in the Malden area, Bob graduated from school and was drafted into the United States Army. Following his discharge from the service he began working for Pepsi Bottling Company, as well as owning three restaurants, selling insurance and delivering Williams Sausage. He found favor in his work and taught his three sons this same work ethic. Bob became a correctional officer for the Ozark Correctional Center where he worked until he retired. He loved to B.B.Q. and went on to train for judging with the KC BBQ Association.
Bob was committed to serving our Lord Jesus and living a life that reflected his faith. He attended the Seymour Nazarene Church and enjoyed helping with B.B.Q. dinners, driving the bus or was on standby as the locksmith. Always encouraging others in their walk; Bob was a witness of the grace of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and a sister-in-law.
Bob leaves behind his sons, Adam Hughes and wife Stephanie of Marshfield, Missouri, Robbie Hughes, and John Hughes both of Springfield, Missouri; his grandchildren Hailee, Shawn and Jake; his brother Richard Hughes and his sister Marilyn Gurlen both of Collinsville, Illinois; and his sister-in-law Joyce Hughes; his dear friends Betty Lawson and Teresa Coday; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of other dear family and friends.
A jack-of-all-trade, Bob was never afraid to try new things. He found joy in the simple things of life and was ready to take on any challenge. He faithfully served his country, his family and his Lord. We celebrate the life of Robert Dale Hughes, his many accomplishments and the loving memories he created for his family and friends.
And as Bob would say regardless the weather or what was going on in his world, “Sure is a beautiful day, today.” May we carry on his legacy of love, peace and joy.
Services for Bob Hughes will be Thursday evening; August 16, 2012 at the Seymour Nazarene Church at 7 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Holman Howe Funeral Homes of Seymour.
