Robert Davis (Hartville)'s Obituary
Robert Lorraine Davis was born January 10, 1948 to Ancil Lorraine Davis and Emily Edith (Browitt) Davis. He attended all twelve years of school at Hartville and graduated in 1966. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served our country for over twenty years. Among his accomplishments in the Navy were many awards during his tour of duty in Vietnam. He also served a tour of duty training over 500 new recruits at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He served on sea duty on six different ships performing a variety of duties and traveled to every continent, circled the world by ocean, and visited many foreign countries.
After retiring from the Navy in 1986, he attended SMSU majoring in Industrial Technology. In 1990 he accepted a job at Crosscut Home Center in Marshfield where he worked for 15 years. Robert was always a happy, friendly person who tried to help out his customers, friends, and neighbors.
Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1986 and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Robert was preceded in death by his sister; Brenda; his parents; one daughter, Constance Adrienne Davis at age six; his paternal grandmother, Lola (Marcum) Davis, who raised him and his sister from when they were babies; his paternal grandfather, Albert Davis; his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Ethel May (Brooks) Browitt.
Robert was preceded by a long line of proud descendants who fought in every war for this country and many who settled in Wright County after the Civil War. Davis’, Marcum’s, Mansfield’s, Reasoner’s, Brooks’, and Browitt’s all have a long history in Wright County of which Robert was very proud of his heritage.
Robert is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Beverly (Eaton) Davis of the home where they enjoyed the last twenty-two years together. She was a constant source of strength and encouragement over the course of his illness with cancer. He is also survived by a daughter, Christina Lynn Purkiss; a son, Robert Lorraine Davis Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three step-sons, Brennan Cantrell of Raymore, Missouri, Brandon Cantrell, and Brad Cantrell both of Niangua, Missouri; nine grandchildren who he especially adored; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and many other friends.
