Robert Fisher's Obituary
Robert Lawrence Fisher, son of James and Carrie (Amos) Fisher, was born July 1, 1926, at Lynchburg, Missouri. He departed this life on January 7, 2010, at his Lynchburg home at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 6 days following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Bob was a Plato High School graduate. He served our country in the United States Navy for 24 months during WWII. He was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, Bainbridge and Cheltenam, Maryland, and Recelfe, Brazil. He was a Radioman and a Cryptography Operator. He received his honorable discharge May 3, 1946. Bob was loyal to his country and dedicated to the time he served. He was proud to be a Veteran. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to farming. On August 29, 1949, he started “Nebo Garage” in Nebo. Five years later he closed that garage and re-opened at Lynchburg calling it, “Bob’s Garage”, working in the garage business for twenty years. On August 25, 1951, Bob married Elsie L. Rogers and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage, until her passing on February 2, 2003. Their marriage was blessed with a son. In 1966, Bob became the Postmaster of the Lynchburg Post Office, serving for 29 years before its closing in 1997. Bob enjoyed Gospel and Blue Grass music and played the guitar, mandolin and dulcimer. He enjoyed woodworking projects, and delighted in building clocks and dulcimers. Being saved at an early age, Bob was baptized in 1935. He was a dedicated Christian man, devoted to daily Bible reading and prayer. He treasured the time he spent teaching Sunday school at Lynchburg Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a member at the time of his passing. Bob took pride in his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. He spent time camping and fishing with his family and was especially close to his grandson, Robert Wade Fisher. On May 15, 2005, Bob married Evelyn Putzier Livermore. They shared over 4 wonderful years of marriage. Now, collectively, they have 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, 7 grandsons and 6 granddaughters, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Elsie; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Rogers. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Cathy Fisher; a grandson, Robert Wade Fisher, all of Lebanon, Missouri, a stepson, Ronald Livermore, and his wife, Sally, of Lynchburg, Missouri, two stepdaughters and their husbands, Lois and Rodney Everage, of Lynchburg, Missouri, and Leila and David Rehbein, of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister, Pauline McGuire, and her husband, Dean, of Plato, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Elmer Rogers and his wife, Edie, of Lebanon; 12 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Bob was a loving husband, supportive father, compassionate brother, gentle grandfather, caring Christian neighbor and a cherished friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday January 10, 2010 at the Holman - Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Pine Creek Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday evening 5-7:00 p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
