On July 16, 1948, he was united in marriage to Frances V. Evers, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances, on February 18, 1995; a daughter, Barbara Golden Thomas; a grandson, James Robert Thomas; and a cousin, Billy Love.
Robert is survived by two sons, Robert Orien Golden, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Michael Wayne Golden, and his wife, Brenda, of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, John Thomas, Joseph Thomas, and Richard Crichton; a number of great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Georgia, and graduated from Irwin County High School. He entered the United States Army Air Corps, and served his country faithfully during World War II. He then attended Abraham Baldwin College, before being recalled back into the military. He stayed in the Air Corps as it evolved into the United States Air Force, and made a career that spanned over twenty-three years. After he retired, he and Frances moved to Florida, where Bob worked for Fairchild Hiller Aircraft Manufacturing Company in St. Augustine, Florida, and then for William H. Ladue Sprinkler Fitters in Orlando, Florida. In 1976, the family moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and Bob began working for Carmeco, Incorporated for several years, before being employed by Marathon Electric until officially retiring.
Bob was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lebanon.
In his spare time he enjoyed doing woodworking projects, and liked looking at old cars and airplanes. Bob was very proud of his military service, and had been awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a hard worker, a dedicated soldier, and a true patriotic citizen.
