Robert Jenson's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Francis Jensen, age 82, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Citizen’s Memorial Healthcare Facility in Bolivar, Missouri. Robert was born on a farm southwest of Hugo, Colorado on March 26, 1927 to Jens P. (Jim) Jensen and Viola (Rasmussen) Jensen, who were of Danish descent. Bob was the fourth of 13 children. He attended Pattonsburg and Nebraska Center country schools and Hugo Public Schools in Colorado, and graduated from Hugo High in 1945. He joined the Navy in February of 1946, and went to pharmacy school in San Diego, where he was stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital. Later, he transferred to a naval hospital in New Orleans. Upon his discharge, Robert returned to Hugo and assisted his father on their dairy farm. On March 3, 1950 he was married to Marlene Summers at the United Methodist Church in Hugo, Colorado. They had three daughters-Kathy, Debbie and Donna. When his father passed away in 1952, he took over management of the farm and helped his mother with the five children still at home. In addition to managing the farm, he also worked at a local service station and later entered into a partnership to purchase a Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealership. After several years in the dealership, he sold his share and he and Marlene purchased and operated the Hugo Gambles store for several years. In the early 1970s, Robert contracted rheumatoid arthritis, which hampered him for the rest of his life. This led to the selling of the dairy farm and the Gambles store, but didn’t stop him from other endeavors. He and Marlene bought and operated a liquor store in Limon, Colorado for several years. He also became a real estate agent in the eastern Colorado area. In 1984, they moved to rural Bolivar, Missouri, and bought and operated two different farms north of town- the first on B Highway and the second near Highway 83. In the early 90s, they sold out and moved back to Colorado for a few years, but returned to Bolivar in 1997, where they resided until the present. Robert is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Mike) Sauer from Dallas, Texas, Debbie Jensen from Colorado Springs, and Donna (Mike) Boetger from Memphis, Tennessee, five grandchildren, Christine Sauer, Shannon and Jeff Sauer, Karen Mosher, and Chad and Matthew Boetger, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Earl of Hugo, Colorado, seven sisters, Clara Nieman, Florence Johnson, Margie Musgrave, Linda Rodewald and Joyce King of Colorado and Erma Cook and Claudia Kravig of Bolivar, and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene (Summers) Jensen, his mother and father, brothers, Eugene, Arden, Andy, and Jerry, and grandson, Brian Mosher. There will be a memorial service and interment for both Robert and Marlene in Hugo, Colorado, tentatively on October 24, 2009. No services will be held here in Bolivar, Missouri. Arrangement are under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Missouri.
