Robert Johnstone (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Robert Andrew Johnstone, son of Albert F. and Edith M. Wiederhold Johnstone, was born July 24, 1949, in Peoria, Illinois. He departed this life Friday, November 13, 2015, in Kansas Medical Center, in Andover, Kansas, at the age of sixty-six years, three months, and nineteen days.
On July 20, 1973, he was united in marriage to Virginia Ann Hester, and they shared the last forty-two years.
His parents preceded him in death.
“Bob”, as he was called by family and friends, is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, of the home; two brothers, John Charles Johnstone, and William “Bill” Darl Johnstone, both of West Point, Mississippi; a sister, Lorel “Joy” Johnstone, of Kansas City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He lived his early years in Illinois, California, Mississippi, and Missouri, as his father was serving in the military. He graduated from high school in West Point, Mississippi, and then joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan and in various places stateside. He then served in the United States Army National Guard for several years. While living in Missouri, where his parents purchased a farm near Virginia’s parents, he met and soon married Virginia. They lived in Phillipsburg for a few years, and then made their home in Springfield while Bob attended Missouri State University and earned his engineering degree. After graduating, Bob and Virginia moved to St. Louis where Bob worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for several years before moving to Wichita, Kansas, and beginning a career with The Boeing Company. Later, he would become an independent engineer working for various aircraft manufacturing companies.
Bob had made his profession of belief in Christ and followed the Presbyterian faith throughout his life.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, both bow and arrow and shot gun, fishing, and doing woodworking projects. He belonged to a group of ham radio operators that called themselves “The Bear Club” and was particularly proud of a recent certification achievement.
Bob was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
