Robert Jones' Obituary
Robert Lee Jones, son of Chas Thomas and Liddie Aislee Gourley Jones, was born November 17, 1928, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, February 13, 2006, in Bothwell Regional Health Center, in Sedalia, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, two months, and twenty-six days. On July 5, 1949, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Mary Deliah Carroll, and to this union three daughters and one son were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary, on November 16, 2005; two daughters, Roberta Faye Elia, and Mary Elizabeth Abney; and a brother, Charles Jones, Jr. Robert is survived by a daughter, Sieta L. Brown-Stokes, of Sedalia, Missouri; a son, Robert Junior Jones, and his wife, Donna, of Jesup, Georgia; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Sebeniecher, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area. He then was a civil service worker in Guam for a time. After he and Mary were married, they made their home in Lebanon and Robert worked as a truck driver for Von Der Ahe Van Lines in Fenton, Missouri for thirty years, and then for Global Van Lines for twelve years. During this time the family moved to California for twenty-five years, before returning to Missouri to the Richland community. They then lived in Florida for five years and in Las Vegas, Nevada for four years, before returning to Florida. In November of 2005, Robert and Mary moved to Sedalia to make their home with their daughter. Robert had made his profession of belief in Christ and followed the Baptist faith. He was presented the Trucker of the Year Award on March 22, 1974 at the M & W AA. Inc. 39th Annual Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and gardening. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Robert was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in the Iduma Cemetery, near Laquey. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri
