Robert "Bob" Jones (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mr. Robert Ray “Bob” Jones, age 71 of Brighton, MO passed away at 11:10 AM on Thursday, June 12, 2014 of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on MO Highway 13 & BB in northern Greene County.
Mr. Jones was born on September 10, 1942 in Dadeville, MO the son of Ray Walter Jones and Evelyn Maxine (Asbell) Jones.
Bob plowed corn fields from age 9 in Stockton Valley Area on the family farm.
Bob was a graduate of the Dadeville High School, the Joplin Junior College and received his Master’s Degree from Drury University. While in school, Bob received numerous athletic awards and achievements during his scholastic career setting records, some of which stand today.
After college he was Head Coach for Baseball, Golf and Basketball at local schools for several years. During that time he was also a teacher and moved into school administration.
During his coaching career he continued his lifelong love of cars through his employment in car sales. He worked at several dealerships until opening his own dealership “ Bob Jones Used Cars” in Springfield and later near his home at Brighton.
Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar.
Bob was united in marriage to Arletta (Stevens) Greer in Springfield, MO on November 7, 1991.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Jones and Evelyn Shelton. Step-father James Shelton, Sister Martha Shelton and Brother Bill Shelton.
Surviving is his wife Arletta Jones of the home, His Daughter, Kim Smith and Husband Dennis of Bolivar, MO; Their sons, Matthew Smith and Jared Smith.
Step-son, Steven Greer and wife Sarah of Ozark, MO; Their children, Ashton Greer and Peyton Greer. Step-son, Jeff Hamlin and wife Cheri of Springfield, MO; Their daughter, Catherine Hamlin. Also a Half-brother J. D. Shelton of Albuquerque, NM. And another special pet, Chico Choco.
Bob’s two greatest passions were spending time with his family and trips to Colorado.
