Robert L. Holmes' Obituary
Robert Leonard Holmes, son of Henry H. and Mary Ellen Blake Holmes, was born October 24, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, February 20, 2007, in Christian Healthcare North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, three months, and twenty-six days. On January 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Elizabeth Dean, and to this union three daughters and five sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Vivian Andrews, and Deborah Hanning. Robert is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of the home; a daughter, Catherine Uder, of Lebanon, Missouri; five sons, Robert L. Holmes, Jr., of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Terry L. Holmes, of Atlanta, Georgia, Kenneth Holmes, and his wife, Patricia, and Tam H. Holmes, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Christopher F. Holmes, and his wife, Rosemary, of Jamesville, Virginia; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Kansas City, Missouri area. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Army and served his country faithfully in England during World War II. He then served for a number of years in the Air Force. He later worked as a cabinet builder for several years. Robert followed the Baptist faith throughout his life. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars for several years. In his spare time he enjoyed building birdcages, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Veterans' Park in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Moose Lodge Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. Memorials to St. John's Lebanon Heritage Foundation Cancer Center may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
