Robert Sides' Obituary
Robert Harold Sides, son of Harold Grant and Mina LaRue Troy Sides, was born October 28, 1942, in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. He departed this life Thursday, January 25, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-four years, two months, and twenty-seven days. On February 27, 1964, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Varble, and to this union three sons were born. His parents preceded him in death. Robert is survived by his loving wife of almost forty-three years, Beverly, of the home; three sons, Robert D. Sides, of Lebanon, Missouri, Chris Sides, and his special friend, Candi Drew, of Springfield, Missouri, and Eddie Sides, and his wife, Misty, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Kayla Sides, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandsons, Justin, Cody, and Jesse Sides, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a brother, Ed Sides, and his wife, Carol, of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania; a number of nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was raised in the Aston, Pennsylvania area and graduated from Edystone High School in the Class of 1961. He served his country faithfully in the 62nd Engineering Battalion of the United States Army from June 19, 1961 until June 18, 1964. He and Beverly then made their home in Pennsylvania, where Robert worked for the Sun Oil Company for a few years. In 1970, they moved to Lebanon, Missouri, where Robert and Beverly lovingly raised their sons, and Robert worked as a machinist for Detroit Tool and Engineering Company for twenty-nine years. Robert was baptized as a child into the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Lebanon Rural Fire Department for a number of years, serving as an engineer and on the board of directors. He enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and hunting. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very important to him and he was especially devoted to his grandchildren. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Sides Family Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
