Robert Smith (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Robert Dean Smith departed this life on Friday, May 12, 2017. He was born on July 2, 1928, the second of eight children born to Dean and Clora (Jacques) Smith in Dade County, Missouri. After attending college, he served in the Navy from 1950 to 1953, primarily as an Ensign on the USS Hambleton (DMS-20). He married Lois Alene Murray on May 6, 1951.
Bob and his family moved to Bolivar in 1960 and joined First Baptist Church, where he later served as a deacon. He taught Physics at SWBC, later SBU, for 31 years, retiring in 1991.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Smith, Archie Smith and by a sister, Helen Smith Fulcer.
Bob is survived by a brother, H. Guy Smith, three sisters, Bonnie Smith Jedrey, Betty Smith Piper, and Glenda Smith Miller, his wife of sixty-six years, Lois Alene Murray Smith, three children, Carol Smith Wright and her husband Bill, Robert Nelson Smith and his wife Carolyn, and David Murray Smith and his wife Loree, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Bob enjoyed classical music, woodworking, and running the scoreboard for Bearcat Basketball games. His expertise at small electrical appliance repair was appreciated by many. Above all, Bob was a Christian. His family and friends will miss him and live in hope of seeing him again in Heaven.
Visitation will be Monday, May the 15th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Butler Funeral Home, Bolivar, MO.
Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO.
