Robert W. Snider, Sr. (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Robert Winn Snider, Sr., son of Virgil L. and Viola Rivers Snider, was born September 15, 1938, in Dallas, Texas. He departed this life Tuesday, December 9, 2014, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, two months, and twenty-four days.
On June 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Eva M. Thompson, and this union was blessed with one daughter and two sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Long.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Eva, of the home; two sons, Robert Snider, Jr., and his wife, Tina, and Tim Snider, and his wife, Angel, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter, Vickey Owens, and her husband, Jim, of Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Leroy Snider, of San Diego, California; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Texas, and was raised in Oklahoma and Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in the Class of 1957. After he and Eva were married, they made their home in the Kansas City area and lovingly raised their family. Robert worked for the Mack Truck Company and the Bendix Corporation, before beginning a career as an insurance appraiser. He started working for Allstate Insurance Company and then opened his own appraisal firm, which he operated for a number of years. Later, he joined FEMA and Homeland Security for several years before retiring. For the last eighteen years, he and Eva had made their home in Lebanon, Missouri.
Robert had followed the Methodist faith throughout his lifetime.
He loved Hydroplane boat racing and was the world champion racer for several years. He was a member of the American Outboard Federation, the American Powerboat Association, and the National Boat Racing Association. He also liked working on and building boat motors and was a good machinist. He enjoyed fishing and camping and liked playing the guitar. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, and a good friend to many.
