Robert Lee Switzer (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Robert Lee Switzer was born April 26, 1941 in Ontario, Oregon to Charlie Switzer and Ellen E. Horn Switzer. He passed away Friday, March 28, 2025 in Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri. He was eighty-three years, four months and fourteen days of age.
Robert grew up in Camden County, graduating from Camdenton High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he faithfully served his country. He served during the Vietnam War and spent time in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Caribbean.
On July 3, 1965, Robert was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Margaret Taylor. They shared fifty years of joy and wonderful memories prior to her passing in 2016.
Robert is also preceded in death by his son, Matthew Switzer, brothers, sisters and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebekah Crooks of Camdenton, Missouri; his grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua and Zachary; and ten great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters that he loved very much; and a special friend, Billie Statler of Lebanon, Missouri and her daughter Kierra Miller.
Robert owned a hardware store in Lebanon when he completed his time with the Navy. He then had a thirty year career with Wal-Mart where he retired from.
After Mary and Robert were married, they lived in Stoutland, Missouri before moving to Lebanon. Robert and Mary lived in Tennessee for a time and then made their home in Florida. In 1984, Robert and Mary returned to Lebanon and Robert owned a hardware store before being employed at Wal-Mart for thirty years.
Robert and Mary had volunteered with the Laclede County American Red Cross. They helped organize volunteer workers, contacted prospective volunteers concerning upcoming training sessions, and devised a way to keep accurate records with contact information on each volunteer. In 2008, Mary and Robert were joint recipients of the Gloria Doss Award at the Laclede County Hometown Heroes banquet.
He loved being outside and enjoyed gardening and collected rocks. Robert will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to this country and to his family. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A memorial has been established to Community Cares and donations may be left at the funeral home.
