Robert W. Travis (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Robert Wayne Travis, son of Lloyd and Rowena Rowell Travis, was born January 25, 1944, in Natchez, Mississippi. He departed this life Monday, October 5, 2020, in Lake Regional Hospital, in Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, eight months, and eleven days.
On August 30, 1973, he was united in marriage to Sue Marie Merrill, and they shared the last forty-seven years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and a brother, William Travis.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sue of the home; five daughters, Renee Gitre, Terri Travis, both of Lebanon, Missouri, Kathy Travis, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ann Caballero, of the State of Mississippi, and Tammy Cummings, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; four sons, Lester Gitre, and his wife, Andrea, of the State of Michigan, David Travis, of Lebanon, Missouri, Johnny Travis, and his wife, Mary, of the State of Pennsylvania, and Bobby Travis, and his wife, Amanda, of Belton, Texas; nineteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Mississippi and Louisiana. He entered the military at the age of seventeen, and served his country faithfully through two tours in Germany, and in Vietnam and Korea. After being honorably discharged from the military, he made his home in El Paso, Texas where he worked for the United States Postal Service for eighteen years. Once he retired, he and Sue moved to Missouri and made their home in the Lebanon area since 2010.
Robert had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Phillipsburg Christian Church.
He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post # 4107 and the American Legion Post # 83 of Lebanon, Missouri. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the memories he made for them during his lifetime.
