Roger Lavern Andrews (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Roger Lavern “Butch” Andrews, son of the late John T. and Florence (Varner) Andrews, was born on May 27, 1944, in San Jose, CA, and departed this life on October 2, 2022, in Independence, MO. At the time of his passing, he was 78 years, four months, and four days of age.
Roger was the second born of four children; one older brother, Larry; a younger brother, Doug; and younger sister, Marsha. He spent his childhood years moving around a lot, they went wherever his dad’s work took them. The family moved to Buffalo when he was 15, and he graduated from Buffalo High School. Roger was a very good baseball player and loved to pitch. He also enjoyed laughing and sharing stories of the fun and mischief he and his siblings often experienced. His time in K.C. and back on Grandpa Varners farm with family were the memories most often shared.
Roger was saved in the fall of 1963 and baptized at Bible Baptist Church a few months later. He married Iris June Wilson on June 7, 1964, and they also made Buffalo home. Together they had two sons, Russell Lavern Andrews and Bradley Allen Andrews. They raised the boys with love, and he was dedicated to providing the best life possible for his family. Whether a night spent together at home, a day at the river fishing or a weekend water skiing at the lake, he shared his time and love with them. Roger could fix anything and would let his boys watch or “help”, always taking the time to teach them as well.
Roger took classes and was trained to be a butcher at Woods Market, and later was trained as a Color TV technician at Zenith in Springfield where he worked until the mid-70’s, before opening a TV repair service out of his home in Buffalo. He later began working part-time at the USPS as a substitute Rural Mail Carrier in Buffalo, and eventually made this his career as a full-time carrier on a route in Cross Timbers. He lived in Preston and later met Carol, they were married and made this their home for many years. He retired in 2005 after 19+ years of service. If you knew Roger, you knew he was always up to something. Tinkering around home, helping at church, working with the water department in Preston, or attending the grandkids many sports, school functions, and family activities anytime he could. He never met a stranger and was always willing and happy to help anyone in need. He made so many lifelong friends along the way.
Roger and Carol attended Bible Baptist Church in Preston where he served as Treasurer until 2009. They became members at New Hope Baptist Church in 2010. He enjoyed worshiping with old Hymns, working with the youth, and being involved with many other church activities. Guitar music was his favorite. Roger cherished time spent with family and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Andrews; one granddaughter, Paige Williams; and another sister-in-law, Marsha K. Andrews. He is survived by his wife, Carol Andrews of Blue Springs, Missouri; two sons, Russell L. Andrews and wife Kim of Springfield, Missouri, and Brad Andrews and wife Shannon of Bolivar, Missouri; two step-children, Lavonne Engeman and husband Myron, and Brian Johnson and wife Teena; one brother, Doug Andrews of Missouri City, Texas; one sister, Marsha L. Laughary and husband Larry of Louisburg, Missouri; four grandchildren, Nick Andrews, Ben Andrews, Brook Andrews, Brady Andrews; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Jackie, Russell T., Melissa, Samantha, Shane, and Tawni.
