Rolli n's Obituary
Rollin Robert Jerred, Sr., son of Lambert Alfred and Violet Lucille Alberts Jerred, was born January 16, 1926, in Wewela, South Dakota. He departed this life Monday, November 30, 2009, in the Missouri Veterans Home, in St. James, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, ten months, and fourteen days. On January 26, 1947, in Burton, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Myra Maye Custer, and to this union two daughters and one son were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Phyllis Butcher. Rollin is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Myra, of the home; a daughter, Cathy Rannow, of Conway, Missouri; a son, Rollin R. Jerred, Jr., and his wife, Carla, of Griffith, Indiana; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Irvin Butcher, of Ophiem, Illinois; two sisters, Betty Zoreb, and her husband, Kenneth, of Parkston, South Dakota, and Mildred Painter, of Bassett, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in South Dakota and Nebraska, and then entered the United States Army as a young man. He served his country faithfully during World War II, and was stationed in Hawaii for part of his time in the military. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned home to Nebraska and soon he and Myra were married. At the time of his marriage, Rollin worked on ranches for three years, and then went into construction work full time. He worked on building Fort Randall Dam at Pickstown, South Dakota, Oahe Dam in Pierre, South Dakota, and Glendo Dam in Glendo, Wyoming, as well as other projects around the country. He also had been employed as a foreman and superintendent of the Graver Tank Manufacturing Company in East Chicago, Indiana. In September of 1989, he and Myra moved to Conway, Missouri to enjoy their retirement years. Rollin made his profession of faith in Christ later in his life and had established a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting and fishing. He loved animals, liked working on ranches and in his shop, and enjoyed restoring old cars. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Rollin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will remember him as a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, and a patriotic citizen and friend. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 4, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until time of service under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri. Donations may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
