Ronald Rooks (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Ronald Noland Rooks was born January 22, 1944 in Gary, Indiana to Harry and Viola Rooks, joining his older brother, Al Hauser. He departed his earthly life and entered the gates of heaven on February 12, 2023, after a brief illness.
His parents were circus performers and he traveled with them when he was young. He would enjoy telling entertaining stories of what he had experienced and the many places they had visited.
He fell in love with the guitar in his early teens and did not read music, he played everything by ear. He started out by playing at school functions until he left home. He moved to downtown Chicago, Illinois where he played with a group, as well as did some solo work.
In June of 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He worked in the mess hall during the day and during nights and weekends, would entertain officers and on occasion, commanders, playing his guitar. Following his honorable discharge, Ronald made his home in Waynesville, Missouri.
In addition to playing his guitar solo, or with a band in St. Louis and Lake of the Ozarks, he worked as a DJ at one of the local radio stations. Ron owned his television shop in St. Robert, Waynesville and Lebanon for over 40 years. In addition to TV’s, he also worked on computers.
In 1974, Ron earned his commercial pilot’s license and quickly went on to become an instructor. He enjoyed sharing stories about the different places he flew to and for a time, he worked for the National Forestry Service, as he flew fire patrol.
He married the love of his life, Carol Ryser, on October 28, 1983. They shared 20 years of happiness and wonderful memories until her unexpected passing in 2003.
Although Ron did not have any children of his own, he was blessed with numerous friends and enjoyed spending time with them and their families.
Ron didn’t hesitate to talk to everyone. One of his most exciting memories was meeting Chet Atkins and getting to play the guitar with him.
Ron is survived by his brother, Al, and a niece and several nephews and many friends. He left a lasting impression on those he knew and will be greatly missed.
