Rosalie Burgess (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Rosalie Ava Burgess, daughter of Charley and Alma Snyder Berry, was born January 13, 1917, near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, January 22, 2015, in her home, in Sedalia, Missouri, at the age of ninety-eight years, and nine days.
At an early age, she was united in marriage to Roy Nunn, and to this union one daughter, Betty Irene, and a son, Richard Owen, were born.
On December 30, 1940, she was married to Wesley Virgil Burgess, and to this union four children were born, Virgil Lee, Robert Eugene, Kenneth Ray, and Sharon Kay.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley, on October 24, 1983; a daughter, Betty Irene Bottcher, and her husband, Robert; two sons, Richard Nunn, and Robert Burgess; three grandchildren, Janet Scott, Alma Kay, and Kenny Don; three brothers, Billy, George, and James; three sisters, Lucinda, Ida, and Florence; two brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
Rosalie leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Kenneth Burgess, of Granbury, Texas, and Virgil Burgess, and his wife, Darlene, of Sedalia, Missouri;
a daughter, Sharon Handley, and her husband, Edward, of Sleeper, Missouri; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Nunn, of Conway, Missouri, and Cheri Milburn, of Sedalia, Missouri; a step-daughter, Cheryl Oursbourn, and her husband, Barry, of Stoutland, Missouri; a step-son, Don Wesley Burgess, of Springfield, Missouri;
nineteen grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; twenty-six great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Berry, and his wife, Vivian, of Sedalia, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area. She was a migrant worker for a time in California, Indiana, and Arkansas. She and Wesley first made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their family. For the last fifty-five years, she had made her home in Sedalia, Missouri, where she worked as a housekeeper for various motels, including the Sandman Motel.
Rosalie had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God.
She was an excellent Southern style cook and was especially known for her fried chicken, pies and cakes. She always put her faith and her family at the center of her life and dearly loved her children and all of her grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed her pet dogs, “Tobby” and “Maggie”.
Rosalie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-eight years.
Memorial donations may be made to the Stephens Cemetery and left at the funeral home
