Rosalie Jones Conklin (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Rosalie “Sissy” Jones Conklin, daughter of Elva Lee and Audrey Helen Lilly Jones, was born August 23, 1939, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at the Baptist Medical Center, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, at the age of seventy-four years.
In October of 1957, she was united in marriage to a young Army soldier, Laurel Lee Conklin, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Wayne Conklin; and a brother, Jerry Wayne Jones.
Rosalie is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Laurel “Skip”, of the home; a daughter, Lee Ann Vinciguerra, & her husband, Mark, of Scottsdale, Arizona; a son, Michael Lee Conklin, of Fernandina Beach, Florida; four grandchildren, Jessie Lee, Matthew Conklin, Shannon Tersigni, and Ava Vinciguerra; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Tersigni; a brother, Jack Jones, and his wife, Carol, of Middleburg, Florida; countless nieces and nephews; her Russian Blue cat, “Ivan”, and her Yorkshire Terrier, “Teddy”; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born the eldest of three children in her family. As a young girl growing up in Lebanon, Missouri, she was a graduate of Lebanon High School, in the Class of 1957. Later that same year, she married Laurel, and they made their home in Lebanon. Within a few years, the newlyweds moved to her husband’s home near Flint, Michigan, as Laurel pursued a career in heavy marine construction. In 1960, 1964, and 1967, they were blessed with the arrival of their children, Terry Wayne, Michael Lee, and Lee Ann. As the children were growing up and attending their respective activities, Rosalie was a devoted homemaker to her family. In 1978, the Conklin family moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida, to be near other family members that had relocated to the area.
Rosalie had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach, where she sang in the choir.
Mrs. Conklin became involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, Austin Chapter # 396, where she served as Worthy Matron in 1974, and was a Lifetime Member. An accomplished guitarist, she enjoyed playing and singing on the Ozark Jubilee which was televised from Springfield, Missouri. She also developed a passion for hunting sharks teeth on the shores of Amelia Island.
Rosalie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her seventy-four years.
