Rose "Cookie" Lyons (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Rose Marie “Cookie” Lyons, daughter of Walter Max and Carol Vianna Heorth Lyons, was born September 29, 1965 in Long Beach, California and departed this life on August 20, 2018 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri at the age of fifty-two years, ten months, and twenty-one days.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Lyons, in September of 1986, and an aunt, Norma Ruth Branstetter.
Cookie is survived by her father and step-mother, Walter and Shirley Lyons of Jacksonville, North Carolina; brother and his partner in life, Spangle and Gloria of Fair Grove; sister, Vianna Lyons of Mansfield; three uncles, Dale Heorth and wife, Pat, of State of California, Gale Heorth of State of Washington and Bob Branstetter of Raymondville, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
When Cookie was little, it was hard to find her without her EeEe, which was her beloved black and yellow stuffed monkey. She also enjoyed watching cartoons with “Popeye” being one of her favorites. During her younger years, she participated in the Special Olympics with running being her specialty. Special moments during different Olympic years included, running with Mickey Mouse, having her picture taken with Sigman and the Sea Monster and meeting Roy Rogers and getting Triggers autograph. She felt very privileged to participate in the Special Olympics in California, Washington and Missouri where she won multiple medals.
Despite her disabilities, she never let that slow her down. During her high school years, she was a big part of the Mansfield High School Pep Club, even becoming the school mascot. Cookie was a graduate of Mansfield High School in the Class of 1984. She enjoyed volunteering at the old Mansfield Hospital and riding her bike around town.
In June of 1988, she was involved in a bike accident that changed her life forever. Cookie spent over a month in Mercy Hospital intensive care unit before being transferred to Northwood Hills Care Facility in Humansville, Missouri. She became “Rosie” to the staff and during the 30 years of residency at Northwood Hills, our beloved Cookie became part of their family always receiving the best care possible.
Cookie will be greatly missed by all that loved her.
