Roy Hembree's Obituary
Roy Lee Hembree, son of Fred and Etta Mae (Baldwin) Hembree, was born April 27, 1924, in Greene County, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, November 13, 2008, in Manor Care Nursing Home, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, six months, and sixteen days.
On December 18, 1949 he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Schwartz, at her parent’s home and to this union one son was born.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on February 14, 2008; and his parents.
Roy is survived by his son, Russell Hembree, of Jefferson City, Missouri; two grandsons, Brad Hembree, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Matt Hembree, of Columbia, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Jo Wood, of Springfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
At an early age he moved with his family to Wright County, where he lived most of his life. He attended Loring School, and graduated from Fort Smith Auctioneer School, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
In March of 1943 he entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until being honorably discharged.
Roy was the sole proprietor of the Hembree Auction Service and with the help of Betty, they ran the auction service for nearly forty years, and conducted hundreds of auctions in the Wright County area.
He was also a cattle farmer and as he would call it, a “horse trader”. He showed quarter horse colts at horse shows across the state and won many trophies.
Roy was a loving father, son, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and dear friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 17, 2008, in Holman-Howe Chapel, of Hartville, with burial in Little Creek Cemetery. Visitation will 6:00-7:30 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home.
