Roy Warren Hurd (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Roy Warren Hurd, 86, died March 2nd, 2025, at his home in Springfield, Missouri surrounded by friends and family. He was born on September 1st, 1938, and raised on a farm in Wayne County, Nebraska. The beloved son of Fred and Nettie (Kai) Hurd.
Roy graduated from Wayne High School in 1956 and graduated from Wayne State College in 1960. Shortly after college graduation, he married Sharon Jeanette Marrs on May 18th, 1963, in Falls City, Nebraska. Roy and Sharon lovingly shared nearly 58 years of marriage together.
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Hurd; his daughter, Roxanne Hurd Wimberly; siblings and their spouses; Lois and Marion Sherburne, and Elaine and George Biermann; brother in laws Gary Giese and Edwin Milligan. He is survived by his sister, Mitzi, and her husband Glenn Suhr of Florida; his sister Cindy Milligan of Wayne, Nebraska; as well as sons Steven Hurd and his wife Tracey, son Darin Hurd and his wife Stacey; seven grandchildren, Colby Wimberly, Annie Wimberly, Abigail Forester, Olivia Feise, Charlie Hurd, Bland Landers, and Roxy Hurd; ten great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ava, Evan, Emma, Chloe, Finlee, Ella Grace, Gabriel, Miles, and Nora; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.
A joint celebration of life will be held for Roy and Sharon on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at the Elks Lodge in Springfield, Missouri.
Those who wish to remember Roy in a special way should choose to remember him as a hardworking, generous, kind, patient, and devoted friend and family man. Roy was a car man. His early career began in Wayne, NE with the purchase of his first Ford dealership in 1972 and sold in 1978. He then opened another Ford dealership in Buffalo, Missouri that stretched from 1980-1997. After he retired in 1997, he worked part time for several years for Poor Boy Tree Service. Aside from his commitment to provide, Roy was active in the Shrine, where he became a member on December 2nd, 1989. He enjoyed his Mustang Club, traveling with Sharon, spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family. There was nothing he would not do for his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to benefit students within Dallas County. You can donate during the celebration of life, at Cantlon Otterness and Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo Prairie Middle School, or using Venmo @cwimberly1029. These donations will directly benefit students within Dallas County.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 15. It will be at the Elks Lodge Springfield at 2223 East Bennett St., Springfield, MO 65804. The celebration will begin at 5:00PM.
