Roy Long's Obituary
Roy Cleo Long, son of Harold Glen and Janie Ruth Bailey Long, was born March 29, 1927, in Waynesville, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, July 26, 2008, in his home, Montreal, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, three months and twenty-eight days. On December 17, 1949 in Richland, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Fern Mae Shivers and to this union one son was born. Together they shared fifty-seven years, until her passing on December 29, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gerald L. Long; and a brother, Howard Dale Long. Survivors include two grandsons, Stacey Roy Long, of Montreal, Missouri, and Mark Wayne Long and wife, Karin, of Camdenton, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alex and Faith; two brothers, his twin, Harold L. Long and wife, Betty, and Jack Long and wife, Mattie, all of Montreal, Missouri; a special friend, Evelyn Davis, of Richland, Missouri; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews and many friends. He was raised in the Ft. Leonard Wood area and at the age of fourteen the family moved to the Montreal area. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country at the end of WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he came back home and married his wife. He worked as an office manager for the Camden County ASC Office. He later became a rural mail carrier and was a member of the Rural Mail Carrier Association. All the while, he was a farmer and a stockman. Roy made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Freedom Church of Christ. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, having been all over the United States with his wife. He also enjoyed attending livestock auctions. Most days, he could be found at either the Camdenton Senior Center or the Richland Senior Center where he enjoyed visiting with friends. Roy was a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. He made an impression on many lives and his memory will be treasured. Services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday July 29, 2008 at the Allee- Holman- Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Montreal Cemetery.Visitation will be Monday evening 6-8:00 pm at the funeral home and are under the direction of Allee- Holman- Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri.A memorial has been established to the Camdenton Senior center and may be left at the funeral home.
