Roy L. Meyer (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Roy Louis Meyer, Jr. was born June 7, 1945 to Roy L. Meyer, Sr. and Florence Fitch Meyer in New Orleans, Louisiana. He passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab at the age of seventy-eight years, eight months and seventeen days.
Roy spent his early years in New Orleans, but with his dad being with the railroad, the family moved to Illinois where Roy would graduate from Prairie du Rocher High School. Following graduation, he began a career at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. His career would soon be interrupted as Roy joined the United States Army and served his country proudly.
Following his service with the Army, he returned to McDonnell Douglas. While establishing his career, he also graduated from college. He would go on to play at important role at McDonnell Douglas for over thirty years. During this time, he made his home in St. Charles, Missouri.
In the late 1990’s, he retired from McDonnell Douglas and moved to Lebanon, Missouri to be close to Bennett Spring State Park and the area lakes. On June 14, 2015, Roy was united in marriage to Allison Neal-Alford.
In addition to his loving wife, Allison, Roy is survived by his five children, Colleen Bullock and her husband Josh of Lutz, Florida, Dawn Barnett and her finance Doug Day of Conway, Missouri, Kevin Davenport and his wife Debbie of Marionville, Illinois, Johnathan Alford and his wife Trina of Lebanon, Missouri and James Alford of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Linda Kreble of Waterloo, Illinois and Renee Meyer of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois; his brother, Ricky Meyer of Sparta, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David E. Meyer and Hank Meyer.
Roy enjoyed playing cards and being with family and friends. At every opportunity, you could find Roy fishing at the lake or the State Park. He loved good food and good bar-b-que. He also liked homemade pretzels that he would make on occasion.
Most of all, Roy loved his family and was very proud of his military service. He was a hard worker and taught his children the importance of loyalty and integrity. Words cannot adequately express the impact he has had on the lives of his family and so many others. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made with them.
Funeral service for Roy Meyer, Jr. will be Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 9 a.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5- 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial National Cemetery on Thursday afternoon.
A memorial to Alcoholics Anonymous has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
