Roy "Sonny" Thomas (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Roy Jewell “Sonny” Thomas, 93, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Parkview Health Care Facility in Bolivar, Missouri.
Sonny was born in Rockville, Missouri, on February 3, 1931, to Floyd and Velma Thomas. In 1936, the family moved to Oakland, California, later returning to the Bolivar area in 1946.
He attended Bolivar High School and thereafter joined the United States Air Force. In 1955, Sonny was united in marriage to Elaine Franklin Thomas. To this union three children were born: Kevin Roy, Steven Robert and Randy Wayne. He was a Korean War Veteran, and a retiree of Armco Steel Corporation after 33 years of service. During his “retirement”, Sonny began working at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club, where he stayed for many years perfecting his golf skills. He was a loving father and grandfather, cherishing his time spent with family. He will be remembered for his “sunny” disposition, his smile, his unending positive attitude and love of life - without complaints.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Velma Thomas, siblings Betty Jump, Floyd Thomas Jr., Troy Thomas, Paul Thomas, Lavonne “Bonnie” Smith and Sharon Coffey.
Sonny is survived by his sons, Kevin Thomas (Martha “Marti”), Steven Thomas (Cindy), Randy Thomas (Lisa); Seven grandchildren, James Michael, Lindsay Nicole, Corey Alexander, Jarrad Logan, Morgan Danielle, Connor Jacob, Alyssa Brooke; two great-grandchildren, Jagger Evans, Zena Renee; Brothers in-law, Robert “Bob” Seiner and Richard Coffey, along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Sonny will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to services, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, Howard S. Keeling Post 138 in Bolivar.
