Ruby was raised in Yakima and Spangle, Washington, where she graduated as Valedictorian with honors from Spangle High School. She worked as an accountant for John W. After their marriage in 1945, they resided in Ava, Missouri, then moved to Mansfield, Missouri, soon thereafter. Ruby worked in the Ken Ballew Hatchery for many years, and then, together with her husband, opened Mansfield Variety Store, which they owned for 30 years. Ruby also helped start the Mansfield Crisis Center. At age eleven, Ruby attended a Pentecostal Revival in Lind, Washington, the start of the Assembly of God Church in Lind. That evening, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and served Him faithfully the rest of her life. Ruby was very active in several local churches in Mansfield and the surrounding communities. She and Lowell were founding members of the Mansfield Assembly of God Church. Ruby was an avid gardener. She was happiest planting flowers and vegetables, and reaping the benefits of both. She also loved to quilt and to sew, and was known throughout the region for her ability to make the most beautiful Memorial Day flower arrangements. Ruby also loved to read, and spent many hours in her last years enjoying books. We all have special and unique memories of both Lowell and Ruby throughout the years. Ruby will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family, friends, and the Mansfield community.
