Ruby Branstetter's Obituary
Mrs. Ruby Burney Newton Branstetter was born October 15, 1913 near St. George in Wright County, Missouri to Rev. Eli and Alice Claxton Burney. She departed this life November 26, 2007 at the Rocky Ridge Manor in Mansfield, Missouri. Her early years were spent near Competition in Laclede County and south of St. George in Wright County. In 1926, the family moved to a farm west of Hartville, near Pleasant Hill, where she attended school and church. She graduated in the 1933 class of Hartville High School. On October 22, 1933 she married Manie Newton. In 1938 they moved to Pierson, Iowa. In 1942 they moved to Mountain Grove, Missouri. Manie died December 6, 1960. She then took nurse’s training in Springfield, earning the LPN certification and worked in hospitals and nursing homes in Wright County and at Ava. She was an excellent seamstress and loved quilting. She enjoyed gardening, canning and was a great cook. She was a caring wife, mother and grandmother. Early in life, she placed her faith in Jesus Christ as her savior and was a faithful Sunday School teacher and church worker. At the time of her death, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield. On December 26, 1965, she was married to Charles O. Branstetter. They lived on farms between Mansfield and Hartville until 2000, when they moved to Mansfield. To Ruby and Manie was born a daughter, Marsha Kay Baumgartner, now of Howell, Michigan. Family preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Lee Burney; a sister, Lolamae Siems; and a son-in-law, George R. Baumgartner. Survivors other than her husband and daughter include two grandsons, George Kelvin and his wife, Mary and children Rachel, George Thomas and Margaret, of Trenton, Michigan; Alan and his wife, Linda and daughters, Pauline and Emily of Livonia, Michigan. Also surviving is step-son, Rev. Paul D. Branstetter and wife Marcia, of California, Missouri; their children, Michele and her husband, Patrick King and their children, Andrew and Melanie, of Farmington, Missouri; Jason Branstetter and his wife, Laura and daughters Olivia and Megan of Jefferson City, Missouri; and step-son, Jerry O. Branstetter and his wife, Wanda of Marshfield, and their son Steven Branstetter of Los Angeles, California and their daughter, Kaylene Matthews, of Elkland, Missouri. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Steele Memorial Cemetery, Hartville. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 - 7:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri. Return to top
