Ruby Lorene Hawkins, daughter of Arthur and Essie Breakfield O’Quinn, was born July 27, 1928, in Orla, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, September 21, 2012, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, one month, and twenty-four days.
On March 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to George Harold Hawkins, and together they shared sixty years before his passing on September 24, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Olan O’Quinn; and a sister, Thelma McShane.
Ruby is survived by two sisters, Nola Day, of Independence, Missouri, and Wilma Addison, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Orla, Missouri, and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1946. After she and George were married, they made their home on their farm, near Oakland, Missouri, where they raised dairy and beef cattle.
Ruby made her profession of faith in Christ at an early age and was an active member of Oakland United Methodist Church for many years. She and George remained involved in the church for as long as their health allowed.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and growing beautiful flowers.
Ruby devoted her life to caring for her husband and home, and was a concerned neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and treasure the memories she made for her family and friends.
