Ruby Mcalister's Obituary
Ruby Lee McAlister, daughter of Ulysses Millard and Emma Lee (Tankersley) Cantrell, was born April 12, 1917, in Greenville, South Carolina. She was called to her heavenly home, Sunday, February 20, 2011, at the age of ninety-three years, ten months and eight days.
She was united in marriage to Ray Edward McAlister, and to this union a son and a daughter were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Joan Phillips, a grandson, Abram McAlister, a brother, Owen Cantrell, and three sisters, May Bishop, Nell Knight, and Faye Brown.
Ruby is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, “Country” John and Patti McAlister, of Hartville, MO., four grandchildren, Hannah Barber and husband, Kyle, of Branson, MO, Sarah Verow, of Hartville, MO, Julie Phillips and Jay Vernon, five great-grandchildren, Gavin and McKenzi Verow, Eli Barber, Joshua Phillips and Emily Vernon, a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Born and reared in South Carolina, she met and married Ray, and the family made their home in Travelers Rest, South Carolina for many years. She later moved to Hartville in 1984 to be near her son.
Ruby had professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Little Creek Baptist Church. In earlier years of her life she taught Sunday School and was active in WMU. She centered her life around her family and enjoyed cooking and baking for them or anyone who found themselves sitting at her table. She was a people person who never met a stranger, always wanting to do for others.
In her spare time caring and tending to her flowers gave her great pleasure.
Ruby was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, and was a kind and considerate neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishment and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. She will be affectionately remembered and greatly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
Funeral Services for Mrs McAlister will be Thursday February 24, 2:00 pm in the Little Creek Baptist Church, North of Hartville, Missouri, Burial will follow in the Little Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time Thursday in the Church.
The family has suggested Memorials be made to the Abram McAlister Scholorship Fund, and they may be left at the funeral home.
