Ruby Mitchell's Obituary
Ruby Opal Mitchell, daughter of George and Ethel Hughes Hamel, was born June 24, 1915, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She departed this life Sunday, February 26, 2006, in Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, in Ava, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, eight months, and two days. On July 1, 1931, in Lawrence County, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Isaac Babe Mitchell, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isaac, on November 30, 1986; a daughter, Betty Findley; a son, Garrell L. “Mitch” Mitchell; a grandson, Roger Huntsman; and several brothers and sisters. Ruby is survived by a son, Bill Mitchell, and his wife, Ginny, of Springfield, Missouri; two granddaughters, Michelle Shortt, and her husband, Loy, of Ava, Missouri, and Cissy Banning, and her husband, Jimmy, of Springfield, Missouri; a granddaughter-in-law, Debby Huntsman, of Independence, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Tara Reedy, and her husband, Matt, Courtney Allen, and Mitchell Banning; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Walnut Ridge, Arkansas area. After she and Isaac were married, they made their home in Walnut Ridge community until moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1956. Throughout the years, Ruby was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. In 1977, she and Isaac built a new house in Mansfield, Missouri, and made their home there. Ruby remained in her home for as long as her health allowed. Ruby had made her profession of belief in Christ and followed the United Pentecostal faith. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and reading the Bible. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield.
