Ruby Nell Vance's Obituary
uby Nell Vance, daughter of Wiley and Letha Stone Gann, was born February 9, 1917, near Conway, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, July 11, 2008, in University Hospital, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, five months, and two days. On February 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to John G. Vance, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on January 26, 2001; her daughter, Mary Janet Bobbitt, on March 11, 1998; and an infant. Ruby is survived by her son, Robert Vance, and his wife, Sharla, of Columbia, Missouri; five grandchildren, Wesley Vance, Tyler Vance, Laurie Snyder, Mary Eleanor Bobbitt, and Elizabeth Bobbitt; two great-grandchildren, Skye and Drake Snyder; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Graves, of Marshfield, Missouri, and Fount Brandt, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She grew up in the Green Mountain area, near Conway, Missouri, and graduated from Conway High School. She attended beauty school in Springfield, Missouri and earned her cosmetology license. After she and John were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Ruby Nell owned and operated the City Beauty Shop in Lebanon for a number of years. Ruby Nell was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, where she belonged to the Wesleyan Circle. She also served as the director of the Door to Door Evangelism program and in various capacities within the church. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and fishing and loved entertaining her nieces, Pat, Betty, Helen, Joan, and Freida, who she thought of as her daughters. She always liked to be busy and enjoyed caring for her home. She possessed a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her family and church were the center of her life and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their activities. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided many special moments in her life the last few years. Ruby Nell was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, and aunt, and was a caring Christian lady and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and many friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 - 3:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
