Ruby Oberbeck (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Ruby Ann North Oberbeck, daughter of James Dillard and Juanita Mae Carroll North, was born May 1, 1953 in Lebanon, Missouri. She ascended into heaven on Monday, December 26, 2022 in Houston, Texas at the age of 69.
Ruby was saved and baptized at First Baptist Church in Lebanon, Missouri at a young age. For many years she attended Phillipsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she taught young people about the love of Jesus.
Ruby always cried when she heard the song, “Just As I Am” because it was the song that was sung when she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Ruby’s great love and faith in God was evident in the life she lived. She fearlessly upheld each word of scripture. Her greatest desire and constant prayer was that each of her children and their families would be saved and live as God would have them to. With sparkling eyes, Ruby often spoke of how excited she was of going to Heaven and living in a mansion prepared just for her. Ruby was indeed a woman after God’s own heart!
Ruby, (or Ruby Ann as her cousins called her), was raised in Lebanon, Missouri and she was part of the first class to attend Mark Twain Elementary School. She graduated from Lebanon High School in the class of 1971.
On September 30, 1973, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Oberbeck, and to this union they had five children. After they were married, they made their home in Davenport, Iowa before returning to Missouri to make their home in Phillipsburg. They shared many memories together and were a constant support to each other through the ups and downs of life. They were looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage this fall.
After moving to Phillipsburg, Ruby served on the City Council and was president of the Women’s American Legion. She was also concerned about Literacy and taught several adults to read.
Ruby was very talented and loved to do craft projects. She would come up with projects for her children’s class at church to do. She also enjoyed crocheting and made baby blankets for her great-nieces and nephews. It always made her happy to be able to share with her family and friends the special projects she would come up with.
Ruby loved her family and friends, but her favorite time was when she could be with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Ruby was kind, compassionate and an amazing hostess and homemaker. She especially loved hosting Thanksgiving dinner where she would have her entire family of 30-40 people in attendance. While this would be daunting for most, Ruby loved every minute of it!
Ruby worked for Dr. Whipple in his optometry office for many years. She also worked as a waitress at Wyota Restaurant and went to work in Rolla for the government. She also helped her husband, Lloyd, with his auto body shop and helped him however she could.
She also loved nature and had a green thumb like no other. Her house and yard were full of beautiful plants and flowers. She started raising goats many years ago and she enjoyed watching them and taking care of them. She called them her “babies”. She also enjoyed taking trips with her best friend, Bonita Jones.
Ruby was preceded in death by her father, James North.
Ruby leaves those to celebrate her memory, her loving husband, Lloyd; her daughter, Angela Oberbeck of Moline, Illinois; four sons, Clinton Oberbeck of Amarillo, Texas, Terry (Shelly) Oberbeck of Casper, Wyoming, Jesse (Tulsi) Oberbeck of Austin, Texas and Lloyd Oberbeck, Jr. and fiancé, Stephanie King, of Springfield, Missouri; her mother, Juanita North of Lebanon; two sisters, Marie Faucher of Springfield, Missouri and Vickie (Jo) Hendrix of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Mike (Cheryl) North of Douglas, Wyoming and Randy North of Lebanon, Missouri; five granddaughters, Jordan and Steven Harris, Britten Beal and Dan, Sidney Oberbeck, Anjali and Nishi Oberbeck; and three great-granddaughters, Eden and Darby Harris and Willow Chen; and many other relatives and friends.
Ruby left a wonderful legacy for her family. The earthly home that Ruby left behind is heaven’s gain.
