Rubye Ann Briggs (Seymour)'s Obituary
Rubye Ann (Sherertz) Briggs was born June 5, 1922, to George A. and Sadie (Hale) Sherertz in Seymour, Missouri. She departed this world on January 7, 2013, in Ontario, California at the age of 90.
Rubye Ann was born and raised in the Seymour area. Graduating from Seymour High School she then attended Missouri Teachers College. Rubye was united in marriage to Doran Gifford Briggs on September 19, 1945 in Upland, California. To this union two children were born.
Rubye Ann was employed as a teacher at the Flint Hollow School before moving to California where she worked as a secretary at The Daily Report Newspaper. Rubye’s career led her to the Western Union Telegraph Company where she was a Supervisor. She was a member and employee of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union #1428 serving as the Employee Benefits Administrator and International Benefits Trustee.
She enjoyed gardening and was a lifelong student receiving a Computer Science Degree at the age of 78, but she was happiest spending time with her family. Rubye loved the Lord and was a member of the Ontario Baptist Church and served on the San Antonio Hospital Auxiliary.
Rubye Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of twenty-seven years, Doran G. Briggs; her siblings; Bertha Sherertz Byrd, Helen Sherertz Vogel, Ralph Sherertz, Harold Sherertz, George D. Sherertz, William Sherertz, Marjorie Sherertz Daniel, Jabe Sherertz, Betty Sherertz Roundtree and Joan Sherertz Ipock.
Rubye Ann is survived by one son; Gary Briggs and wife Joy of Escondido, CA.; one daughter Kathy Sullivan and husband Patrick of San Diego, CA.; two grandsons; Steve Sullivan of Santa Monica, CA. and Eric Sullivan of San Diego, CA.; one granddaughter; Lauren Sullivan of San Diego, CA. as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
The family is joined at today’s service by nieces and nephews Debbi Daniel-Wayman and her daughter Shelby Daniel-Wayman of Chicago, Belinda Hamilton of California, David Sherertz of Seymour, Jimmy Sherertz of Seymour and Jerry Byrd of Olathe, Kansas.
Rubye Ann Briggs was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments, and will cherish the memories she made for those she loved.
