Russell Forrest's Obituary
Russell Gale Forrest, son of Fay and Mary Snavely Forrest, was born May 24, 1931 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life August 8, 2010 in Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri at the age of seventy-nine years, two months and fourteen days.
He was united in marriage to Lou Wright on September 25, 1959.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Russell Bradley Forrest on July 10, 1994 and a sister-in-law, Tina Forrest
He is survived by his wife Lou of the home; son Mark Hicks of Warrensburg, Missouri and a daughter Leslie Vermillo and husband Randy of Deltona, Florida; three grandsons, Michael Vermillo, Jeremy Hicks and David Hicks; two great-grandchildren, Grace Hicks and Jacob Hicks; three brothers, his twin, Robert Forrest of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; Ronnie Forrest and his wife Willie of Mtn. Grove, Missouri and Duane Forrest and his wife Erma of Norwood, Missouri; a sister, Mildred Heinemann and her husband Bob of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; several nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
Russell was born in Wright County and moved at a young age with his family to California and then returned to Norwood, Missouri in the early 1940’s where he graduated from Norwood High School in the class of 1950. After graduating he entered the United States Navy for a brief time and was Honorably discharged due to asthma. He lived in Independence, Missouri most of his adult life working as a dock worker for Goodyear Tire Company and Watson Brothers. He finished his working career as a freight delivery truck driver for P.I.E. where he worked for twenty-seven years retiring in 1991.
Russell was of the Baptist faith and had attended church in Independence, Missouri.
In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, going to the lake and coming back to the Norwood area where he grew up and driving gravel roads to see the changes that have taken place over the years.
Russell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed and we will cherish the wonderful memories.
Funeral services for Mr. Russell Forrest will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2010 in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, Missouri.
Burial will follow in Macomb Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield.
