Ruth C Amos (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Ruth Carol Amos, daughter of Russell and Chloe Lindsay Montgomery, was born March 9, 1939, near Morgan, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, April 10, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, one month and one day.
On August 12, 1966, she was united in marriage to Eddie L. Amos, and to this union two daughters were born.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Eddie, of the home; two daughters, Shelly Perry, and her husband, Mike, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Christy Amos, of Rolla, Missouri; a step-son, Jeff Amos, of Murphysboro, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Trenton, Emily, and Brandon; a step-granddaughter, Kendall; two brothers, Jerry Montgomery, and his wife, Suzanne, of Republic, Missouri, and Jack Montgomery, and his wife, Barbara, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Bonnie Gray, and her husband, Ron, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Beverly Doerge, and her husband, Ken, of Overland Park, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was raised in the Morgan community and graduated from Conway High School in the Class of 1957. She then earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Missouri State University. She later obtained her Master’s Degree from M.S.U. She began a career in education at area rural schools including, Independence, Newton, Liberty, and Cook Schools. She then began teaching for Lebanon R-III Schools and taught mostly fourth and fifth grades at Maplecrest and Boswell Schools, retiring after thirty-five years in education. She also always found time to be a devoted homemaker to her husband and daughters.
Ruth was baptized early in life and was raised in the Morgan Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church, and had recently been attending Hillcrest Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Pen Masters organization. She was a gifted writer and enjoyed creating many stories, some of which were published in Mature Living magazine and other publications. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, painting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling. She had visited many fascinating locations and loved exploring new places. Ruth and Eddie greatly enjoyed camping and boating with the girls and grandchildren, and Ruth loved to water ski in her younger years. Her family was most important to her and she especially enjoyed having time with her grandchildren.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered for her devotion to family, her love for teaching and children, and for her many talents and friends. We celebrate her life and know that her family will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
