On October 5, 1933, Ruth was united in marriage to Clifford Lowell Carter and to this union one son was born.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clifford, on December 13, 1980; and two brothers, Willis Buck, who died in infancy, and Willard Buck.
She is survived by her son, C.L. and wife Mollie of Rogersville, Missouri; two grandchildren, Chad L. Carter of Springfield, Missouri, and Melanie Furry and husband Lee of Springboro, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Kendall and Addison Furry; a brother-in-law, Lee Wakefield, of Springfield, Missouri; as well as several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Ruth was born in Wright County and attended the Number 3 Grade School and Hartville High School. After she and Clifford were married, they owned and operated the Carter Grocery Store and Gas Station for several years. Ruth continued to operate the store while Clifford was serving in World War II. Upon his return from the war, they sold the store and Ruth stayed home to take care of their son, C.L. She later went to work for Fuge Grocery, MFA, and the Wright County Health Center, before retiring from Ozark Riverways Health Services.
Upon her retirement, Ruth became active in the Hartville Senior Citizens, serving her community as the President of the Senior Center for ten years as well as serving on the Senior Citizens County Council. During her time as President, the Senior Center built and, within a matter of a few years, paid off their new facility. She was a fifty-two year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #45, holding numerous offices during her membership.
Ruth faithfully attended Hilltop Church as long as her health allowed.
In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed making quilts, doing embroidery work, and loved spending as much time as possible with her family and friends.
Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her long life and her many accomplishments, and will cherish the many wonderful memories that she created for her family and many dear friends.
