Ruth Ottinger (Hartville)'s Obituary
Edna (Ruth) Ottinger, age 94, of St. Louis, Missouri (formerly of Mansfield, Missouri), passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Ruth was born on May 25, 1921 in Humboldt, Tennessee to William Franklin and Julia Evelyn (Pickard) Smith.
On March 14, 1939 she was united in marriage to Albert Ottinger and to this union three children were born-Edna Alberta, Ronald Wayne, and Mark Andrew. Ruth and Al were married 53 years before he preceded her in death on October 7, 1992.
In the early years of their marriage, Al went to war and Ruth cared for their daughter Alberta and worked to support their family. When Al returned from the war she enjoyed being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. In their later years Al and Ruth moved to the Mansfield area where they made a successful living raising chickens. She loved sewing and was very involved in the churches they attended through the years. Despite suffering a stroke one year ago, Ruth continued to participate in bible studies and attended church at the nursing home where she resided.
Ruth is survived by her two sons Ron Ottinger and his wife Sue, of St. Charles, and Mark Ottinger and his wife Janet, of Florissant, 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. Her loving daughter Alberta preceded her in death, as well as her brothers Dub, Thurman, Hugh and Billy Wayne, and her sisters Lois, Lola, and Marie.
