Ruth Walter's Obituary
Ruth Mae Walter, daughter of Chris and Louise Janish Wunnenberg, was born May 20, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, December 26, 2009, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years, seven months, and six days. On October 12, 1946, in St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Glen Herman Walter. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen, on August 14, 2003; and two sisters, Gladys Wehmueller, and Esther Faszholz. Ruth is survived by a son, Glen Walter, Jr., of Rockhill, South Carolina; two daughters, Linda Oughton, and her husband, Carl, of Springfield, Missouri, and Cheryl Kinkeade, and her husband, Dennis, of Nixa, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Heather Gripka, and her husband, Brad, of Pierce City, Missouri, Chris Oughton, and his wife, Cari, of Springfield, Missouri, Jeremy Kinkeade, and his wife, Jaime, Danielle Peebles, all of Nixa, Missouri, Nicholas Walter, and his wife, Jennifer, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Katie Walter, of Greenville, South Carolina, and Carey Walter, of Rockhill, South Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Riley, Hailey, Camryn, Bryce, and Nealie; a brother, Chris Wunnenberg, and his wife, Verna, of Cincinnati, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from high school there. After she and Glen were married, they made their home in St. Louis, and lovingly raised their family. Throughout the years, Ruth was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. In 1983, she and Glen moved to Springfield, Missouri, to be closer to their daughters. Ruth was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, and, through the years, had been involved in various ladies groups and had sung in numerous choirs. She belonged to the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and other games. She shared this love for games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved to laugh at her great-grandchildren’s antics. She was a quiet person who gave strength and encouragement to her family and was an example of God’s love and acceptance in action. She offered unconditional love, never spoke a bad word about anyone, and was always content. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout her lifetime. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday December 30, 2009 in the Trinity Lutheran Church Springfield, Missouri. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:15 a.m. until time of service under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
