He was raised in Tennessee and graduated from high school there. He entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force and spent some time in Korea. He then lived in Alaska for several years. He began working as a general contractor in Tennessee and Arizona before coming to Missouri twenty-eight years ago. He and Linda made their home near Lebanon and Sam worked as a brick mason for a number of years, and was the pastor of the Wood Street Baptist Church for seventeen years. He was also active in the jail ministry. He won countless number of people to the Lord during the last fifteen years.
Sam had made his profession of faith in Christ and his faith was central in his life. He was ready and anxious to meet his Maker.
He liked to travel and loved talking to people wherever he went. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sam was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated soldier, a hard worker, a concerned and compassionate minister and a good friend.
