Sandra Davis (Hartville)'s Obituary
Sandra Kay Davis, age 72 of Hartville, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 19, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.
Sandy is survived by her husband, John of the home; two daughters, Melissa (John) Heeney of Westwood Hills, Kansas and Amy (David) Coopman of Shawnee, Kansas; a son, Alex (Lisa) Davis of Blue Springs, Missouri; six GRANDchildren: GRANDdaughters Katherine Anne Coopman and Lucy Laree Coopman; GRANDdaughter Megan Elizabeth Heeney and GRANDson John Ryan “Jack” Heeney; GRANDdaughter Aria McMahon Amelie Davis and GRANDson Everett Solomon Davis. Sandy is also survived by three sisters, Donna Shippy, Nancy Lukens and Toni Desselle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, September 23 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Holman-Howe funeral home in Hartville. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 24 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Durbin Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Durbin Cemetery.
Sandy was born November 10, 1946, in Holden, Missouri to Kenneth George Shippy and Wilma Kathryn Dowty Shippy. As a young girl, Sandy loved to read and keep her younger sisters in line. She graduated in the inaugural graduating class from Raytown South High School in 1964.
Sandy was introduced to the love of her life, John L. Davis, by John’s cousin and Sandy’s best friend, Paulette Davis Stewart at the ripe old age of 11. Sandy and John married on June 18, 1964, at St. George, Missouri. Daughter Melissa Ann was born on February 7, 1966; daughter Amy Laree was born May 5, 1970; and son John Alexander (Alex) was born May 28, 1977.
Sandy worked in Property Management in Kansas City for more than ten years. She was also an office manager for several years in Stilwell, KS and a paraprofessional educator for special needs students in the Blue Valley and Hartville School Districts.
Sandy remained an avid and voracious reader throughout her life, instilling this same love in her children with many bedtime stories and trips to the library. Sandy loved collecting and reading cookbooks. She was an accomplished flea market and yard sale shopper.
