Sara K. Blaine's Obituary
Sara Marie Kline Blaine, daughter of James Walter and Leona Williams Kline, was born November 21, 1921 in Arcadia, Pennsylvania. She departed this life at the age of 84 on October 30, 2006. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Peggy Anne Blaine Burger, and two grandsons, Michael Eugene Burger and James Alexander Saddler, a great-grandson, Joseph Grubbs, four brothers, Paul, Gerald, Roy and William Kline, and one sister, Ruth Frantz. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James and Barbara Blaine of Springfield, Missouri, and Joe and Marcia Blaine of Seymour, Missouri, two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Dan Saddler of Eagle River, Alaska, Catherine and Dr. Randy Hill of Springfield, Missouri, sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, a sister, Naomi Bowder of Arcadia, Pennsylvania, and a brother, Robert Kline of Washington, D.C. Sara was a retired registered nurse, having served in the U.S. Nurse Corps as a 1st Lieutenant from 1943-1946 in the European Theatre of Operations. She served in England, France and Germany during World War II. She had been active in nursing for fifty years. She practiced nursing in Pennsylvania, where she graduated from nursing school, and in New York, Oklahoma, Alaska and Missouri. Her last fourteen years having been an O.R. and O. B. supervisor at Mercy Hospital in Mansfield, Missouri, from where she retired in 1991. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Mansfield, Missouri, where she served as Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a lifetime member of American Legion – Post 128, Mansfield, Missouri. She was a member of the Clearfield Hospital Nursing Alumnae, Clearfield, Pennsylvania. She returned there every August for her nurses’ reunion. After her retirement from nursing, she spent most of her leisure time caring for her grandchildren who were the light of her life. All sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren brought her much joy and happiness. She returned to Europe in 1990, to Portugal, Spain, France, Germany and Yugoslavia. Two weeks later she went to Hawaii with her son and his family. She returned to visit Alaska fourteen times after moving to Missouri. Our mother was the center and the light of our lives. She showed us God’s way of life, which is love, for which we will literally be eternally grateful. We will miss her dearly, but we rejoice in her heavenly glory and we know that she will be with us always. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2006, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Mansfield. Burial will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. in the funeal home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri.
