Scott A. Codding's Obituary
Scott Alan Codding, son of Elbert Eugene, Jr. and Oleta (Matney) Codding, was born April 24, 1960, in National City, California. He departed this life Monday, June 4, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of forty-seven years, one month, and ten days. He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents, William and Gladys Matney, and Gene and Martha Codding; three aunts, Joann Raley, Wanda Lakey, and Wilma Ince; and four uncles, Billy Wayne and Willard Matney, Michael and Robert Codding. Scott is survived by his mother, Oleta Codding, of Seymour, Missouri; a special friend, Jackie Cook, of Sparta, Missouri; his aunts and uncles, Lester and Wilma Matney, of Seymour, Missouri, Aniece and Russell Hemminger, of Lebanon, Missouri, Oleva Williams, of Brownswood, Texas, Linda and Jessie Aguire, Ronald and Charlene Codding, Donnie Codding, and Patsy Blea, all of the State of California, Neva Jacoste, of the State of Washington, and Donna Rodriguez, of the State of Utah; three cousins who grew up with him, Marsha Dile, of Springfield, Missouri, Pam Merritt, and Stacy Rippee, both of Seymour, Missouri; a number of other cousins; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born in California and moved with his family to Seymour, Missouri, in 1968, where he graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1978. He worked for the Seymour Police Department and Webster County Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher; then, in December of 1988, he went to work for the Ozark Correctional Center in Fordland. Scott was a member of the Ozark Correctional Center Dog Team, E-Squad, and Firearm Trainer; the Seymour Lions Club; a volunteer firefighter and was past president of Southern Webster County Fire Department. He was involved in the Torch Run for the Missouri Special Olympics. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, working with and training the dogs at Ozark Correctional Center. He loved NASCAR and was a huge Mark Martin fan and also enjoyed collecting wolf figurines, miniature fire trucks, and Lions Club pins. Scott enjoyed every day that was given to him and lived life to its fullest. He was especially devoted to his mother and cared very much about her well being. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and many friends. Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2007, in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Memorials to The Ozark Correctional Center Dog Team may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri.
