Selma Dunnegan Holmes (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Selma Jean Dunnegan Holmes, daughter of Cecil and Rose (Miller) Letsinger was born August 22, 1925. She passed away on January 11, 2020.
She graduated from Ava High School in 1944.
She was married to Alvin Dunnegan, October 19, 1946. She and Alvin resided in Mansfield where she was employed by Dr. A.M. McQuay from January 1946 to August 1958. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, shortly thereafter. While in Oklahoma she worked as a dental assistant and lab technician until 1988. After Alvin retired, they moved to Springfield in 1992.
Selma was saved at age 13. During her life she worked with youth groups. She taught in the children’s department, a ladies Sunday school class, sang in the choir, was director of a singles department, and organized a widows group called “Rebuilders”.
Alvin and Selma joined The Gideon’s International in 1969. There she served in every local office as well as state president for three years and as an Area Director in Oklahoma and Missouri.
Selma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin, sister Florence Moore, sister-in-law Nadine Letsinger, step-son Larry Holmes, and a step-great-grandson Brett V. Holmes.
She is survived by three brothers, C. M. Letsinger, Mansfield, MO, Hershell (Barbara) Letsinger, Ava, MO, and Norman (Bonnie) Letsinger, Scottville, MI, and one sister Rosalee Denney of Strafford, MO.
In 2009 Selma married L. V. Holmes, who survives. She is also survived by step-children, Wayne (Zella) Holmes, Bob (Neyda) Holmes, Donna Holmes, Dan (Diana) Holmes, Jody Holmes, and a step-daughter-in-law Barbara Holmes. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She will be fondly missed by Carmen Marple and her children Brian and Melanie Smith and son Liam and Jennifer and Kyle Ohrynowicz, and son Alex.
