Sharon Wylie (Hartville)'s Obituary
Sharon G. Wylie was born on April 27, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida and was the only child of the late Matthew and Loretta (Gilmore) Gettings of West Palm Beach, Florida. She departed this life on March 10, 2021 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri after 77 wonderful years.
Sharon graduated from Austin Peay State University with a degree in education and taught middle school until she met and married Richard “Dick” Wylie on September 1, 1967 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After getting married she became an Army wife and mother. They were stationed in many locations throughout Dick’s career and in each place Sharon was a leader and mentor through her participation in the Army Officer Wives Club, charity organizations and numerous social groups.
In the mid-1980s she and her husband retired and moved to Manes, Missouri where they began The Last Hurrah Ranch. She served for many years as the President of the Wright County Library Board, volunteered countless hours at Manes Elementary School and supported the Missouri Extension Office in Hartville, Missouri. Sharon’s leadership, determination and tireless efforts continue to positively impact the local community.
Sharon’s passions were eclectic. She loved the ocean, interior designing, sewing, cooking, crafts, jazz music, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Cardinals. She traveled the world, raced sports cars, mentored young adults, and gifted numerous handmade quilts, baby blankets and dolls to her friends and neighbors.
Survivors include her husband, their children; Richard William Wylie, Jr. and his wife Valerie, Lauren Marie Wylie all of Hartville, Missouri, Brian Matthew Wylie of Charleston, South Carolina and Daniel Joseph Wylie and his wife Rhonda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, Dallas, Jennifer, Abigail, Richard William III, Austin, Ethan, Hannah and Emma, a sister-in-law, Kaye Disbro of Michigan, a nephew, Derek Disbro of Georgia, a niece, Danica Nead of Michigan, other relatives and friends.
Sharon was a spirited, unique, intelligent and exceptional lady who lived life on her terms. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and loyal friend. We celebrate her wonderful life and will always cherish the many happy memories she created.
