Shelby Jean Ross (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Shelby Jean Ross was born on August 23, 1939 in Truman Arkansas and departed June 14, 2021 in Cox Hospital Springfield Missouri at the age of 81.
Even though Shelby did not have any children of her own she had many who called her mom, grandma, and great grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, granddaughter, and three great grandchildren. Shelby is survived by a sister, four brothers and two sister-in-laws, including many nieces and nephews, son, and many other relatives and friends.
Shelby joined the Marines at 17. To this day she was proud to be a Marine. She loved her music, singing, and playing her guitar. She loved going to the casino and gambling. She had many lifelong friends. Her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she made during her lifetime.
Marissa says: I’ll never forget the best moments with you, from feeding our monster to the endless amount of love you and grandma provided for Kristin and I growing up. I’ll never forget when Kristin and I rode our bikes on the highway and we got grounded or when we pulled the chlorine tablets out of the pool and got a spanking because we knew we shouldn’t be touching that. But most importantly, I’ll never forget our Friday night games and movie nights. I’ll never forget our times out on the boat fishing with you. And as I dislike tuna now, I’ll never forget the tuna casserole you always made us and it was delicious. And when we didn’t want to eat our vegetables, we gave them to Henry so we could get dessert. You always knew we were lying but gave us the dessert anyway. I’ll never forget you letting us help mow the lawn on the tractor and we loved it! That’s how much you loved us despite all of our disagreements in life (mainly disagreements because we were both too stubborn), you always showed unconditional love. You have no idea how much that has impacted our lives. I will miss you more than you know but I am thankful that you are no longer in pain and resting with Great Grandma and Grandpa. We will all be together again someday. Please look over us and protect us. We love you!
Shelby’s cousin Kristi says: the most important things I will miss is the sound of Shelby’s voice and her hugs. Shelby was so talented. Her singing and the ability to play her guitar was amazing. She had a special way to tell a story. Her voice was so soft but strong. I will miss our talks, her laughter and so much more. Her hugs were the best. You could just feel how much she loved you. Shelby had a heart of gold. I will miss her terribly. Until we meet again Shelby, until we meet again.
Her grand niece Jennifer would like to say something about her Aunt Shelby: Aunt Shelby was always great to me even when I became an adult she would still check up on me to make sure I was ok. She took such a personal investment in all who were in her life. She always encouraged others and to make sure to tell you what she admired about you. Myself, and my family were lucky to have her in our lives.
Shelby was strong willed and determined she had her own opinions. Anyone that knew Shelby may have endured her strong opinions.
Graveside services with full military honors will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2021 in the Mansfield Cemetery with Dr. Richard Eakins officiating.
