Sherman Porter (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Sherman Everett Porter, son of Everett and Grace Kinkade Porter, was born March 7, 1952, near Niangua, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, June 4, 2010, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of fifty-eight years, two months, and twenty-seven days.
On May 1, 1970, he was united in marriage to Connie Sue Martley, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Roy, Raz, Jim, and Bob Porter; and a sister, Freda Berry.
Sherman is survived by his wife, Connie, of the home; two daughters, Ruth Candler, and her husband, Jeff, and Melissa McDaniel, and her husband, Terry, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Patrick E. Porter, and his fiancée, Tamara Laramore, of St. Robert, Missouri; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenny and Dave Porter, both of Lebanon, Missouri, and Bill Porter, of the State of Tennessee; a sister, Wilma Bowling, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; a very special aunt, Ruth Young, of Lebanon, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Laclede County, Missouri, and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1970. After he and Connie were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their family. Sherman served his country faithfully in the United States Army for a few years. He worked as the manager of the Dollar Store in Joplin, Missouri for a short time. For sixteen years, he was the maintenance manager for the City of Lebanon.
Sherman followed the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed singing in a gospel group.
In his spare time he liked going to auctions and yard sales, where he looked for tools to add to his collection. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed time with his family and friends.
Sherman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the special memories he made for them throughout the years.
