Shirley Gean Wilkerson (Seymour)'s Obituary
Shirley Gean Wilkerson, daughter of Curtis and Grace Oletta (Breedlove) Poston was born February 22, 1938 in Fordland, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, December 20, 2010 in her son’s home in Seymour, Missouri at the age of seventy-two years, nine months, and twenty-six days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Faye Poston, Frances Vaughan, and Irene Waterman; and three brothers, Bill, Jackie, and Kenneth Poston.
Shirley is survived by her son, Rick Young and his wife, Donna, of Seymour, Missouri; two grandchildren, Joshua Young and his wife, Shelly, of Ava, Missouri and Patty Jean Young of Tucson, Arizona; five great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kendra, Meagan, Tyler, and Wyatt; two step-granddaughters, Tara Rippee and Dana Rippee; a step-great-granddaughter, Manda; a sister, Helen Hale, of Fordland, Missouri; a brother, Cecil Poston and his wife, Delores, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
She grew up in Fordland and had lived in the Fordland and Seymour area all her life, and was employed for over thirty years at Lily-Tulip in Springfield where she worked in the Service and Maintenance Department. She had also worked as a seamstress at the H.D. Lee Company in Seymour.
Shirley had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early in her life and was a faithful member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Springfield, Missouri. She loved her church and volunteered in all the church community outreach ministries.
In her spare time she enjoyed reading and sewing and especially embroidery. Shirley spent most of her time in her flower gardens where she grew all kinds of beautiful flowers.
Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring friend and neighbor. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the precious memories she created for all who knew and loved her.
Services are 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 in Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Snavely officiating. Burial will be in Fordland Cemetery, Fordland, Missouri under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
