Shirley Riley's Obituary
Shirley Jane Riley, daughter of Rama Lee and Alma Jane Lillard Williams, was born September 12, 1934, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, March 5, 2009, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-four years, five months, and twenty-three days. On May 13, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Radford Riley, and to this union three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James, on December 4, 1997; and three brothers, John, Glen, and Ralph Williams. Shirley is survived by three sons, David Radford Riley, and his wife, Lahoma, Kermit Ray Riley, and his wife, Mary Ruth, and Timothy Ross Riley, all of Lebanon, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Christopher West, Alicia Ward, Michael Riley, Latonya Ward, Aaron Riley, Margaret Riley, Brooke Ledbetter, Karrie Ward, and Patrick Riley; a brother, Orlean Williams, and his wife, Betty, of Linn Creek, Missouri; a sister, Mary Lee Rhoads, and her husband, Junior, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; an aunt, Ruth Collier, of Lebanon, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Roy Newton Riley, and his wife, Joyce, of Columbia, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Eileen Riley; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area, and attended Millcreek School. After she and James were married, they made their home near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their sons. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Shirley also worked at the Lebanon Walnut Bowl Factory Store for many years. Later, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Lebanon Care Center North until retiring. Shirley was saved at an early age and was a member of Millcreek Baptist Church. Over the years, she had worked in various capacities in the church, but particularly helping with Vacation Bible School. In her spare time she enjoyed doing word puzzles, and liked going to the Hughes Senior Center and on trips with the bank groups. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and niece, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday March 9, 2009 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Memorial Park. Visitation is Sunday afternoon 3-4:30 pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Millcreek Baptist Church.
