Sidney Matthew Biggs, son of Edward Sidney and Josephine Idell Loree Biggs, was born June 6, 1923, near Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, January 3, 2014, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, six months, and twenty-seven days.
On March 29, 1978, he was united in marriage to Carol Darlene Bringelson Lowery, and they shared the last thirty-five years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David L. Biggs; a granddaughter, Lori Silvey; a brother, Earl Biggs; and four sisters, Elizabeth Farrington, Lena Mohn, Ola Faye Biggs, and Norma J. Viter.
Sidney is survived by his wife, Darlene, of the home; two sons, Daniel Biggs, and his wife, Darlene, of Waynesville, Missouri, and Robert A. Biggs, and his wife, Phyllis, of Kansas City, Missouri; three daughters, Barbara A Parrent, and her husband, Frank, of Springfield, Missouri, Margaret J. Wedel, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kimberly D. Acuff, and her husband, Chris, of Lebanon, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna J. Chastain, of Yankton, South Dakota; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised near Candock, in Laclede County, Missouri, and attended Dry and Dusty School. He then attended Lebanon High School and went on to barber college where he received his licensed as a professional barber. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army Air Corps from April 21, 1943, until October 30, 1945, during World War II. He then returned to the Lebanon area where he owned and operated a farm for many years. Sidney also was a well known and respected barber in Lebanon, owning and operating Sid’s Barber Shop for a number of years. He took great pride in his profession and his work and enjoyed visiting with his regular customers.
Sidney had professed his faith in Christ early in his life and was active in the Church of the Nazarene for several years. He had recently been attending First United Methodist Church in Lebanon.
He enjoyed being outdoors where he particularly liked fishing. He loved animals of all kinds and especially his pet dogs. His family was very important to him and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sidney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a professional barber, and a patriotic friend to many.
