Siew- Lin Amelia Lam (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Amelia, Siew-Lin Lam, 84 years 4 months of Bolivar, Missouri passed away peacefully on November 7, 2011 at Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility, Bolivar after a long battle with dementia and failing health.
Amelia, Siew-Lin was born on June 19, 1927 in Ipoh, Malaysia, the youngest daughter of the late Fan and Yung-Huen Ng of Ipoh, Malaysia. She was married to Soo-Fatt Lam, Bolivar, Missouri for 68 years. Out of that union, they had three children – Esther Chang of Perth, Australia, Yin Watson, Bolivar, Missouri, and the late Dr. David Lam. Amelia, together with her husband and children were saved and baptized as a result of missionary work in Malaysia. She was a stay-at-home mother, raised her children in the fear of the Lord and was lovingly nicknamed “Mama Lam” because of her generous hospitality to everyone she touched. Her home in Ipoh, Malaysia was always open to anyone passing through. Her generosity and hospitality was just her faith in action. In 1992, Amelia and Soo-Fatt left Malaysia and “retired” to Bolivar, Missouri to be close to her family. She continued putting in action her faith, became a beloved member of her Sunday School class, the Travelers, and a tireless helper with the “Wednesday Super Crew”, serving up her “wontons and egg rolls” on those evenings dinners at her “adopted” church at First Baptist Church. She was particularly proud that her son, the late Dr. David Lam was called to serve as a missionary, that God’s love had come full circle in her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Soo-Fatt, of the home, her two daughters, Esther and husband, Dr. Stephen Chang, Perth, Australia, Yin Watson, Bolivar, daughter-in-law Jessie Lam, Houston, Texas, and her grandchildren – Sharon and husband, Paul Gabrielson, Paul and wife, Jo Chang, and Ruth Chang, all of Perth, Australia; Ashley and husband, Chris Menefee of Springfield, Missouri, Travis and wife, Ashlea Watson with great grandson, Keegan, of Bolivar, Troy and wife, Sarah Watson of Bolivar, and Price Watson of Adrian, Missouri with many nieces and nephews living in Malaysia, Australia, and United Kingdom.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her only son, Dr. David Lam, and son-in-law, Jesse O. Watson.
Amelia, as she was lovingly known, will be missed by her family and friends around the world.
